Kareem Battles was an eighteen-year-old Columbus resident who was found with multiple gunshot wounds on January 7, 1991, on Summit Street. The murder occurred at 1400 Summit Street and was ruled a homicide; no motive has ever been clearly established.

The Columbus Police Department is the primary agency handling the investigation, with support and publicity from statewide entities including the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Investigators say there are no known connections to disputes or activities that explain why Kareem was targeted, and the absence of concrete evidence or significant witnesses has stalled the case. The Attorney General’s Office continues to highlight this cold case in hopes of generating new leads.
