Terrence Patrick Brennan, 36, was found washed ashore along Lake Erie in Lorain, Ohio, on April 3, 1989. His body was discovered among rocks behind a building on West Erie Avenue, north of West 21st Street. He was wearing a western-style shirt, jeans, a cowboy boot, a yellow-metal cross necklace with turquoise stones, and a Seiko watch.

The Lorain Police Department initially classified the death as suspicious but could not identify him at the time. Early attempts to use dental records and fingerprints were unsuccessful because of technological limits; his identity was finally confirmed in 2017 after improvements in fingerprinting and broader database access, aided by a 1971 Illinois criminal record. Investigators considered accidental drowning as a possibility amid reports of missing boaters and a downed pilot, but no definitive cause was established and the case remains unsolved.

Anyone with information about why Terrence Brennan was in the Lorain area or the events leading to his death is asked to contact the Lorain Police Department.
