Darnell A Smith, 20, was shot and killed on June 15, 2008, in the Emerald Hills neighborhood of San Diego while walking to his aunt’s house. The shooting happened about 12:20 a.m. after Smith parked his car in the 700 block of Pyramid Street. He was walking with several relatives when an unknown suspect stepped from a vehicle and fired multiple rounds; Smith was struck and died at the scene.

Witnesses said the shooter’s vehicle was a newer black Ford Escape or a similar SUV with tinted windows. Smith was a student at San Diego Mesa College studying business administration and worked for Cox Communications. A reward of $3,500 was offered for information, but the case remains unsolved.
