Martel Peters, 21, was shot and killed on April 30, 2008, in San Francisco’s Mission District. The killing occurred in the 3000 block of Harrison Street and was one of 19 homicides in the Mission that year. Peters’ death was part of a broader surge of violence in the neighborhood in 2008, a period marked by ongoing conflicts and gang-related activity that disproportionately affected young men of color.

The San Francisco Police Department has publicly appealed for information in homicides from that period and at times offered rewards to encourage witnesses to come forward. Witness reluctance and limited evidence have been cited as obstacles in many Mission cases, and Peters’ homicide remains unsolved, now among the cold cases from that difficult year. If anyone has information about Martel Peters, the location on Harrison Street, or the events of April 30, 2008, please contact investigators. How can the community help bring new information forward?
