On September 23, 1977, 18-year-old Melvin Gooden was found dead in Akron, Ohio. Construction workers discovered his body in the Cuyahoga River near 900 Cuyahoga Street. The cause of death was a gunshot wound, and authorities ruled the case a homicide.
Despite investigative efforts by the Akron Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the killing remains unsolved and no suspect has been publicly identified. Law enforcement has continued to keep the case active and has encouraged anyone with information to submit a tip through the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
Does anyone who lived or worked near 900 Cuyahoga Street in 1977 recall anything that might help investigators or Melvin’s family?
