Virginia Vangler, 68, was found dead in Whitehall, Ohio, in late July 1976 under suspicious circumstances. She had been living alone in room 175 at the Holiday Inn East, 4801 East Broad Street, for about four months after the death of her husband roughly five years earlier. Hotel staff knew her well.

Her body was discovered wrapped in the bathroom of her room by hotel cleaning staff on July 29, 1976; the initial discovery date listed in reports is July 20, 1976, and accounts differ on that detail. Vangler was described as having blonde hair, blue eyes, standing 5 feet 5 inches and weighing 125 pounds. The Whitehall Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation have investigated the case.

The homicide remains unsolved. If anyone has information that could help the investigation, please contact local law enforcement.
