Dorothy Leishman Wood Madden was 25 when she disappeared from Lorain, Ohio, on August 8, 1975. She was last seen near her home on the 1100 block of West 11th Street and did not resurface for years afterward.
Skeletal remains identified as Dorothy’s were found on March 9, 1981, in a rural area on Hawke Road in Columbia Station, Ohio. The remains were wrapped in a yellow and white striped bedsheet. Forensic examination suggested a probable death sometime between 1979 and 1981, but no clear cause of death was determined. The bones showed sacralization of the fifth lumbar vertebra and bilateral septal perforation of the olecranon fossae.
No suspects have been identified and the case remains an unsolved homicide. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office are asking anyone with information about Dorothy’s disappearance or death to come forward. Does anyone have information about Dorothy, her last known movements, or the area around Hawke Road in the late 1970s?
