Karen Ann Penson was 31 when she vanished from her Tacoma, Washington home. She was last seen on May 21, 1983. At the time she was described as a white female with blonde hair and blue eyes, 5 feet 2 inches tall and about 105 pounds.
Her husband of twelve years, Michael Penson, said the two argued and that Karen called a friend to pick her up. He told police he left the residence before the friend arrived and returned to find Karen gone. On May 26 her purse was found wet on a beach, and no further confirmed sightings followed. The couple reportedly had a history of domestic problems; investigators struggled with scant evidence and leads, and the case went cold. Karen’s parents died without learning what happened to her.
In 2001 Michael Penson shot his second wife; officers fatally shot him after he aimed at them and his second wife survived. Does anyone have memories or information about Karen’s last known days in Tacoma?
