Winston Dewayne Marsh, a 29-year-old Black man from Birmingham, Alabama, was shot on the night of May 9, 2011, near the Shell station on Lomb Avenue across from Princeton Hospital in the city’s West End. Marsh was seen running from an alley behind the station after being shot in the upper right thigh. He made it inside the gas station and collapsed behind the cashier’s bulletproof glass, bleeding heavily; paramedics took him to Baptist Princeton Medical Center, where he died several hours later on May 10.

Police said Marsh lived only a few blocks from where he fell and publicly urged residents to come forward, with Chief A.C. Roper saying someone nearby likely knew why he was targeted and who was responsible. Detectives reported progress on parts of the investigation but said the two central questions remained unanswered: who shot him, and why.

If anyone who lived in that West End neighborhood at the time remembers the night around May 9, 2011, or has information about what led to Marsh being targeted, please share what is known with investigators.
