Richard Barrett, 43, was shot and killed in Philadelphia on September 13, 2016, around 7:36 p.m. Officers responding to a report of a person with a gun found Barrett at 580 Hoffman Street with gunshot wounds to his head and torso. He was taken to a hospital and died shortly afterward.
Investigators later focused on a suspect captured on several surveillance cameras near the scene. About a year after the shooting, police released footage and asked the public to help identify a Black male in his early to mid-20s, thin build, medium complexion, wearing a maroon hooded sweatshirt with white drawstrings, dark jeans, and tan work boots. Authorities warned the public not to approach the person and asked anyone with information to contact the Philadelphia Police Homicide Division or submit a confidential tip.
No arrest, named suspect, charges, trial, or conviction has been reported; the investigation appeared to remain open and reliant on public leads. If anyone saw activity near 580 Hoffman Street on the evening of September 13, 2016, or recognizes the person in the surveillance footage, please come forward with information.
