Gina Dawn Brooks, 13, disappeared from Fredericktown, Missouri, on the evening of August 5, 1989. She returned home about 10:00 p.m. from her brother’s baseball game, rode off on her ten-speed bicycle to visit a friend and promised she would be back soon. She was last seen wearing a blue striped top, white shorts and white tennis shoes. Witnesses reported seeing her near her church talking to the driver of a battered station wagon described as light blue, gray or green. A scream was heard shortly afterward and a vehicle was seen speeding away; Gina never returned. Her bicycle was later found abandoned on a residential lawn on High Street, about five blocks from her home, but Gina herself has never been located.
Investigators focused on three men with criminal histories: Nathan D. Danny Williams, Bryant Squires and Timothy R. Bellew. Williams was charged with murder in 1999 but that first-degree charge was dropped in 2003; Squires reportedly made an alleged deathbed statement implicating himself and Williams before he died; Bellew admitted lying to FBI agents about a burial site, was convicted for that lie and served 30 months after a murder charge against him was dropped.
If anyone knew Gina, where she spent time that summer, or remembers the station wagon, please come forward with information.
