On the morning of October 20, 2013, 37-year-old Curtis Edmonds was shot and killed at the Fleming Avenue home of his ex-girlfriend in Brighton Heights. Police say Edmonds had called and threatened the woman beforehand, forced his way into the house after confronting her at the door, struck her, and went upstairs carrying a firearm. He was met on the stairs by the woman’s 39-year-old boyfriend from Penn Hills, who, according to reports, fired a single shot that struck Edmonds in the torso. Officers arrived around 3:15 a.m.; Edmonds was pronounced dead at the scene and a firearm was recovered from his right hand. The two children of Edmonds and the woman, ages 15 and 10, were home and unharmed.
The boyfriend was taken into custody for questioning and later released. He has said he acted in self-defense, and the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office opened an investigation into whether charges were warranted. Edmonds’ mother publicly disputed the self-defense account and said she would seek justice for her son. Does anyone have information about the events that led up to that night or about Curtis Edmonds’ visits with his children?
