Diontre Dean was 17 when he was shot and killed on July 19, 2010, in Pittsburgh’s Homewood North neighborhood. Police responded to reports of gunfire and found Dean with multiple gunshot wounds; emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The shooting happened late at night and was one of several violent incidents that have affected the Homewood area.
Investigators developed some initial leads but no arrest was reported. Progress was hindered by reluctance among potential witnesses to come forward, a problem cited as common in neighborhoods where fear of retaliation exists. Dean’s death devastated his family and community and prompted calls from local leaders for greater police presence and intervention programs to protect young people and prevent further violence.
If anyone has information about the shooting or knew Diontre, please share what you know with the Pittsburgh police.
