A late-night family outing ended in tragedy for Richard Pearson, 40, when he was shot and killed while parking the family car on the 1100 block of Overington Street in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood on or around May 14, 2009. The bullet struck Pearson in the chest shortly before 11:30 p.m. after an unknown gunman approached the vehicle and fired. His family, who had just come from dinner, witnessed the attack; a neighbor heard two loud bangs and saw Pearson’s oldest son pulling his mother away from the car.

Medics pronounced Pearson dead at the scene. Homicide detectives opened an investigation and sought a motive, but the initial reports gave no detailed description of the shooter. There have been no subsequent public reports of an arrest, and the case appears to remain unsolved.

Did anyone in Frankford that night see something that could help identify the gunman?
