Richard Dunham, 48, was killed on September 15, 1997, in Bloomington, California. He was found near the I-10 Freeway, where he was a familiar presence as a transient who often panhandled at the on and off ramps and was locally known as Freeway Richard.

There were no immediate witnesses or suspects identified and the case remains unsolved and classified as a cold case by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department. Investigators say Dunham’s transient lifestyle complicated efforts to develop a strong line of inquiry.

Anyone who was familiar with Dunham’s activities around the I-10 area in 1997 or who saw anything unusual that day is asked to contact the Sheriff-Coroner’s Department with information.
