Monica Bercier-Wickre was 42 when she was last seen on April 7, 1993, leaving The Body Shop bar in Aberdeen, South Dakota, in the company of a couple she knew and a man she did not. Witnesses say the group dropped that man off at another location and Monica then left with him; that was the last confirmed sighting of her alive. Born and raised on the Turtle Mountain Band of the Chippewa reservation in Belcourt, North Dakota, she was a mother of three.
Monica wasn’t reported missing until April 26, 1993. Her body was found on June 16, 1993, in the James River by someone in a canoe; advanced decomposition required identification by dental records. Investigators suspect foul play and are treating the death as a homicide, though no official cause of death could be determined from the remains. The long gap between disappearance and reporting, and a lack of sufficient evidence, have so far prevented any arrests despite ongoing investigation and a reward being offered.
Did anyone who knew Monica or was in Aberdeen that night see her leave the bar or recognize the man she left with?
