Milda Dahl McQuillan, 71, of Ponsford, Minnesota, disappeared on June 17, 1975, while driving an 18-mile route to visit friends on the west side of Bad Medicine Lake. Her pea-green, two-door 1968 Dodge stalled a few miles into the trip but was restarted with help from a postal worker she knew. After taking a wrong turn she asked a passing truck driver for directions; he was the last person known to have seen her.

Three days after she was reported missing the car was found stuck in the mud on an unused logging road about 100 feet off East Bad Medicine Lake Road, near the friends’ cabin. The surrounding wooded and swampy area was searched thoroughly with no sign of McQuillan. Searchers later found her scarf and a belt hanging from a bush in an area that had already been searched, a detail that raised suspicion those items may have been planted. Family members noted the couple she intended to visit did not take an active role in the search, and a man from that household was seen with wet clothes when questioned.

No trace of McQuillan has been found and the case remains unsolved. She was remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who loved cooking and playing cards. If anyone knew Milda, the route she took that day, or saw her car near Bad Medicine Lake on June 17, 1975, please come forward with information.
