Sean Michael Heywood was 33 when he died after a heroin purchase on the night of March 28–29, 2016. He told his father around 10 p.m. that he was going to a nearby Huey’s for a beer; surveillance shows him there shortly after 10 with one beer and at least two phone calls. A seller identified as Mitch, later named David Mitchell Murray, picked Heywood up, sold him half a gram of heroin for $75, then drove him home.

Heywood’s father discovered him unresponsive on the bathroom floor about 12:30 a.m. on March 29; emergency crews pronounced him dead at 1:02 a.m. The autopsy attributed death to a lethal dose of heroin. Investigators recovered a plastic bag of heroin in his pocket, a syringe, a spoon, and his phone. Phone records led detectives to Glenda Aldape; using Heywood’s phone they arranged another sale and arrested Aldape the next day with methamphetamine and heroin packaged similarly.

Both Murray and Aldape were indicted and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin resulting in death; Aldape also pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute. Anyone with information about Heywood, the transaction, or contacts linked to Aldape or Murray is asked to come forward.
