Paul Terry Shepherd Jr. was 40 when he was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2014. He had recently started working as a taxi driver and was on his second day when he picked up a fare in the Fort Sanders area of Knoxville. Around 3 p.m., gunfire was reported in the South Knoxville neighborhood of Montgomery Village; Shepherd’s taxi crashed into a fire hydrant and he was found inside with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and died a short time later.

Investigators recovered broken glass and spent cartridges at the scene and witnesses described two men running from the taxi. One was described as a Black male about 5 feet 10 inches tall and under 170 pounds; the other about 5 feet 8 inches and 160 pounds, both with short black hair and clean-shaven. Police have said they believe robbery was the motive and think the suspects may have lived in the area, but the case grew cold and no arrests have been announced.

Does anyone have information about Shepherd, his last fares, or sightings in Montgomery Village that afternoon?
