On the evening of March 5, 2009, 66-year-old Lester Marvin Walton Sr. was shot and killed while sitting in his mother’s house on Ashland Avenue in Knoxville, Tennessee. A vehicle drove past the residence and an occupant or occupants opened fire on the house; police later described the shooting as a tragic case of mistaken identity. Investigators concluded the attack was retaliatory and aimed at the wrong address.
The Knoxville Police Department has revisited the investigation repeatedly over the years, re-interviewing witnesses and seeking information from people incarcerated for other crimes, but no arrests have been announced and no suspects have been publicly identified. Walton was married to his wife Bernice for 47 years and was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and a bowler with the Pace Setters Bowling Team; his family continues to seek answers.
If anyone knew Lester or has information about that night or the vehicle involved, please share what you know with the Knoxville Police Department.
