Jose Garcia was 19 when he was killed in Anderson, California, on May 6, 1991. Witnesses described a group of men chasing Garcia; he was tripped, fell, and was beaten for about 30 seconds with multiple kicks and punches. A shiny object was seen during the assault but witnesses could not agree whether it was a weapon or a belt buckle. The assailants were described as several Hispanic males between 20 and 30.
Witnesses said the perpetrators fled in a Cadillac, with some possibly leaving in a van. Authorities linked the killing to gang activity, and several people were charged. The trial was complicated by conflicting testimony, witnesses reluctant to testify or recanting prior statements, and testimony from individuals with known gang connections, leaving questions about who did what.
Does anyone who knew Jose or saw the area that night have information that could clarify what happened?
