He was last seen that evening on surveillance at a Chevron in New Waverly while driving his red Mitsubishi Mirage from his job in Cleburne toward Splendora. Phone records place him near State Highway 105 and US 59 in the Cleveland area at about 11 p.m. on May 18, and there has been no activity on his phone, social media, or debit card since.

The region was experiencing severe flooding that night, and authorities have said the conditions raise concern that a vehicle could have been swept away. Despite searches led by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, neither Benford nor his vehicle has been found, and no significant leads have emerged. He was reported to be in good health with no known medical conditions that would explain his disappearance.
