On July 11, 1988, 30-year-old off-duty San Francisco Police Officer Lester Garnier was found shot to death while sitting in his 1984 blue Chevrolet Corvette in the parking lot of a downtown Walnut Creek store at 1295 South Main Street. The weapon used was an AMT 380 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
A fingerprint recovered at the scene has been identified as belonging to Catherine Kuntz, born May 24, 1964. Kuntz is described as originally from Scotland with a noticeable Scottish accent, tall, thin, and blond. During the late 1980s she lived in apartments in Martinez, Concord, Walnut Creek and Alameda, and was known to frequent Oakland. She was a known user of crack cocaine and has used the last names Overend and Wise and the nickname Scotty. Reports indicate she moved to Norfolk, Virginia in 1990 and was arrested there in 1991 for conspiracy to commit murder; more recently she lived in various cities in Florida.
The City and County of San Francisco has offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution in Garnier’s murder. If anyone knew Catherine Kuntz or her associates, can you provide information to investigators?
