Alfred Helton, a Knoxville resident, was found dead at 303 Locust Street on Monday, June 9, 1980. Authorities treated the circumstances of his death as suspicious and quickly classified it as a homicide.

Detectives opened an investigation but did not identify any viable suspects or make arrests during the initial inquiry. Over the ensuing decades the trail went cold and the Knoxville Police Department still lists the case as an open, unsolved murder.

The identity of the person or persons responsible remains unknown and the case leaves unanswered questions for any surviving family and the community. Did anyone in Knoxville in 1980 see or hear anything that could help finally solve Alfred Helton’s murder?
