Katie Palmer was a middle school science teacher in Denison, Texas, and a wife and mother of two. On April 21, 2020, she and her husband John were walking in the early morning when a Ford F250 pickup truck veered off the road and struck them. John suffered a broken back; Katie was airlifted but died of her injuries on April 22, 2020. She was an organ donor and helped seven people receive transplants.
The driver of the pickup, identified as Cory Foster, was noted at the scene as smelling of alcohol and has a prior record that includes reckless driving, speeding, and public intoxication. Foster’s blood was not tested after the crash, and Katie’s family supported passage of Texas Colton’s Law on May 21, 2021, which requires blood testing when a driver is pulled over or causes an accident due to suspected intoxication. The family has filed an ongoing civil suit against Foster; the homicide remains unsolved.
If anyone knew Katie or witnessed the April 21, 2020 crash, please share what you remember.
