Tina Denise Stensaa was 17 when she was fatally injured on February 14, 1986, along South Weed Boulevard in Weed, California. A passing motorist found her severely injured on the rain-soaked road; she was reportedly still alive when rescuers arrived and whispered help, but died after transport to Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta.
Her identity was not known for months. In July 1986 an inmate working on Interstate 5 found a wallet that allowed authorities to identify her as Tina Denise Stensaa, who family members say had run away and hitchhiked to Northern California. Decades later the case was reopened and investigators reviewed a 1998 interview with convicted long-haul truck driver Keith Hunter Jesperson in which he described killing a woman in the Weed area by running her over; some details echoed Tina’s case but those statements have not been independently tied to her death.
Does anyone who knew Tina, saw her in Weed in February 1986, or remembers a truck or driver in the area have information to share?
