Byiringiro Mupenzi, a 25-year-old Congolese refugee, was found dead on May 30, 2017, in the parking lot of his Houston apartment complex. He was discovered naked with severe lacerations; authorities believed he had been decapitated. Mupenzi had fled the Democratic Republic of Congo during the civil war and had been living in Houston for four years. He worked for Goodman Manufacturing Company and hoped to continue his education in construction or engineering.
He was last seen alive on the evening of May 28, 2017, when he and his best friend went shopping; he failed to attend a planned graduation party the next day. The Houston Police Department Homicide Division investigated; Houston Fire Department paramedics also responded. No suspects or witnesses have been identified and no arrests have been announced. The family, including his older brother Nganizi Kayishema, continues to seek answers.
If anyone knew Byiringiro, saw him around May 28–30, 2017, or has information about his death, please come forward.
