Kevin Roman was 39 and a long‑time Bible instructor and coach at Clear Lake Christian School who had recently started coaching flag football at KIPP Academy Middle School in Houston. He was described by a friend and fraternity brother, Ledretic Davis, as a mentor and godfather figure to children he coached.

Concerns began when Roman failed to show for a football game. Around September 10, 2016, Davis went to Roman’s home on Sparrow Street in the Sunnyside neighborhood and found him deceased inside. An autopsy determined Roman had been shot multiple times, with wounds to his head, neck, chest, back and upper left arm. His gray Jeep Grand Cherokee was missing from the residence. Two days after the body was found, the murder weapon was recovered when the brother of a woman Roman had been dating was arrested in possession of it.

In September 2019, 32‑year‑old Laquinta Renee Johnson was arrested and charged with murder. Prosecutors say Johnson, who had a brief dating relationship with Roman, confessed and told detectives she shot him out of jealousy because she believed he was seeing other women. As of September 2019, she was awaiting trial.

Did anyone in Sunnyside or the school communities remember seeing Roman or his gray Jeep around September 2016?
