Tina Sharp was 12 when she became one of four victims in the Keddie Cabin Murders in Cabin 28 at the Keddie Resort, Plumas County, on the night of April 11, 1981. Her mother Glenna Sue Sharp, her brother John, and John’s friend Dana Wingate were found killed in the cabin; Tina was missing from the scene and not recovered with them.
Tina’s remains were found on April 22, 1984, near Feather Falls in Butte County, about 100 miles from Keddie. A bottle collector discovered part of her skull and a section of jawbone; forensic analysis confirmed the identification. An anonymous call later identifying the remains as Tina’s was recorded but the recording was misplaced and only rediscovered years afterward.
The original investigation has been criticized for mishandled evidence and ignored leads. Neighbor Martin Marty Smartt has been named a prime suspect and allegedly confessed to a counselor that Tina was killed after witnessing the attack, yet no charges were filed. A hammer thought to be a possible murder weapon was recovered decades later in 2016 from a pond near the cabin site. Questions remain about what happened that night and how Tina’s remains came to be found so far away.
