On December 31, 2015, 18-year-old Jorge Johnson was fatally shot in the 7000 block of Bissonnet Street in Houston around 11:30 p.m. Houston police found Johnson with multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said a dark-colored vehicle sped away immediately after the shooting. Investigators believe a dispute escalated into violence, but despite extensive interviews and evidence collection no suspects had been identified. Family and friends remembered Johnson as a hardworking young man with aspirations for his career, and the case drew attention to concerns about violent crime in Houston.
