Jacqueline Anderson, 51, was found murdered in her Houston home on October 8, 2015. She was discovered bound and strangled; at the time she had been living alone after the recent death of her husband.

The case stayed unsolved for years. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit reopened the investigation in 2012 and ultimately identified neighbor Roman Martinez, a man with a long criminal history, as a suspect. Martinez later confessed to breaking into Anderson’s home and said he fled while she was still alive. He had moved away from the neighborhood shortly after the murder and was arrested on unrelated charges over the years.

Martinez was charged with capital murder in connection with Anderson’s death but died in custody shortly after being charged, so the prosecution did not proceed. What details about the break-in or Martinez’s movements that night remain unanswered?
