Tammy Vincent was a 17-year-old runaway murdered on September 26, 1979, in Tiburon, California. Her body was found on a beach at Blackie’s Pasture by joggers. The crime scene showed an extremely violent assault: she suffered 43 stab wounds, was doused with acetone and paint, set on fire, and shot in the back of the head. She appears to have tried to flee after being set alight but collapsed a short distance away.
Key items recovered included an awl, acetone containers, and paint that had been bought the night before from a Woolworth’s in San Francisco. Vincent had run away from Washington state and was involved in the sex trade under control of people connected to organized crime. Weeks before her death she had been subpoenaed as a material witness in a prosecution of a prostitution and racketeering ring; she briefly entered protective custody but ran away. A witness later saw a girl matching her description with a man buying the items used in the killing; the man’s identity remains unknown.
Her remains were unidentified until 2007, when DNA from a small hair sample matched samples from her mother and sister; her body was then cremated and ashes returned to family. No arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved. Does anyone have information about Tammy, her last known movements, or the men she was connected to?
