James Castillo was 33 when he was shot and killed on August 11, 2014, in a North Side mobile home community in San Antonio. The fatal shooting happened just after 10 p.m. in the 16200 block of U.S. 281. Castillo and his girlfriend had stopped at a stop sign in their 2002 Chevrolet Trail Blazer when several people approached the vehicle and an argument broke out.
Castillo and his girlfriend exited the car during the altercation. While his girlfriend was held in a choke hold and assaulted, Castillo was shot in the back by one of the assailants. He managed to drive a short distance before stopping; emergency medical technicians arrived and Castillo was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The suspected shooter fled on foot and remains unidentified.
San Antonio police continue to investigate and San Antonio Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. Did anyone in the North Side mobile home community see or hear anything that night?
