Luster Stansberry, 44, was fatally shot on July 14, 2013, in Fort Worth, Texas. The shooting took place in the early morning hours near a Greyhound bus area. Stansberry, who was homeless, became involved in a confrontation with security guard Barry Pittman of Ruiz Protective Services. During the altercation Stansberry attacked Pittman, and Pittman fatally shot Stansberry; the shooting was reported as an act of self-defense. Pittman remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and no charges were immediately filed as it appeared he was defending himself.
The incident raised questions about security protocols, the use of lethal force by private security personnel, and the risks faced by vulnerable populations such as people experiencing homelessness in urban spaces. Are there witnesses or additional details about the lead-up to the confrontation near the bus area that could shed light on what happened?
