Armando Antu was 38 when he was found beaten and left for dead on the night of January 16, 2013, at the intersection of South New Braunfels Avenue and Betty Jean Street on San Antonio’s south side. A passing couple nearly ran him over and at first thought he was already deceased. Though coherent when discovered, Antu was hospitalized, slipped into a coma, and died of his injuries on January 26, 2013. His death was investigated as a murder.
His older sister Annette described him as intelligent and a great guy and said the siblings were very close. Annette acknowledged Armando had personal problems but urged the public to remember who he was, not just his struggles. She worried witnesses might stay silent because of perceptions about his lifestyle and said she found some comfort in a last voicemail he left saying he was tired of living the way he was, apologizing to the family, and saying he loved them.
As of February 2013 no suspects had been identified and the case remains unsolved. Does anyone have information about that night or recall seeing anything near South New Braunfels and Betty Jean on January 16, 2013?
