Guerrardo Lopez, 34, was killed at his home in Houston, Texas, on January 9, 2012, after a violent altercation connected to a failed drug transaction. Three people—Tony Escobar, 17; Joseph Facundo, 18; and Amber Thornton, 22—were charged with capital murder in connection with the attack. The suspects reportedly entered Lopez’s residence under the pretense of trading a laptop for drugs, then attacked him with a hammer.
Two children who were in the home were restrained during the incident while Lopez was beaten; the suspects left with several belongings, including Lopez’s SUV. The three were later apprehended near Laredo while attempting to cross into Mexico after law enforcement and U.S. Marshals tracked them down.
What details about the night or the people involved might help explain how this ended so violently?
