Javier Soto was 34 when he was shot and killed on July 14, 2009, in the 6700 block of Canal Street in Houston. The shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. while Soto was talking with a friend outside his residence; an altercation broke out and he was struck multiple times. The shooter fled on foot, and Soto was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Houston police asked the public for help early in the investigation, but motive and the shooter’s identity remain unclear. No arrest had been announced and the suspect remained at large. Soto was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Houston, and his death continues to be a loss for family and friends.
