Jose Garcia-Ramirez was shot and killed in Houston on May 15, 2008. He was 21 when officers responded to reports of gunfire about 11:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of Bissonnet Street and found him with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said a dark-colored vehicle sped away immediately after the shooting. Investigators believe a dispute escalated into violence, but despite extensive interviews and evidence collection no suspects were immediately identified. Family and friends remembered Garcia-Ramirez as a hardworking young man with hopes of advancing his career, and his death is cited as part of ongoing concerns about violent crime in Houston.
