Police responded to an emergency call and discovered Zelaya with multiple stab wounds; she was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Investigators believe the attack occurred during the afternoon.

Her death was the second woman stabbed to death in the same week in Houston, a detail that heightened concern about violence in the area.
