Albert William Spatz was 67 when he was assaulted on a February evening in 1988 after getting off a bus in Ogden, Utah. Walking along Monroe Boulevard, he was approached by a man who demanded money. When Spatz said he had none, the attacker knocked him to the ground; the impact with the cement caused a severe head injury and the assailant took Spatz’s wallet, which contained $20, then fled into an alley. Responding officers found Spatz with a large lump on the upper right side of his head, a swollen right cheekbone, and a cut inside his mouth; he was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital.

Released into a friend’s care, Spatz deteriorated the next morning and was returned to the hospital by his son, Alan, where surgery was performed to relieve brain bleeding. He never regained consciousness and died on May 6, 1988; an autopsy attributed his death to complications from the blunt force head injury sustained in the robbery. The attacker was described as a Black male about 5 feet 10 inches and 150 pounds, with short hair, wearing a black coat and tan pants. No arrests have been announced in the case; does anyone have information about that night or the man described by Spatz?
