Francine Morgan, 40, was found dead in her Wells, Vermont, home after a pre-dawn 911 call on August 2, 2008. Responding officers discovered her in her bedroom; an autopsy showed she had been beaten and died from a gunshot wound to the jaw. The only other person in the house that night was her 14-year-old son, Christian Taylor, who was arrested days later and charged with second-degree murder. Taylor pleaded not guilty and initially was held on high bail at a juvenile facility; he reportedly told police he had dreamt of a shadowy figure attacking his mother. Bail was later reduced, and he was released into the custody of a guardian with court permission to continue school under supervision.
Despite the arrest and charges, the Vermont State Police continue to list Morgan’s death as an unsolved homicide. The case file gives no clear explanation for why the matter remains open or what ultimately happened to the charges against Taylor. Does anyone in the area remember details from that time or have information that could clarify what happened?
