Cheryl Faye Lunna was 42 when she left her father’s home in Bethel, Vermont, on the evening of April 26, 1992, to drive to work in Randolph. Her overturned car was found on April 29 on Camp Brook Road, submerged in a stream after apparently going off the road at a curve. Investigators from the start considered the scene suspicious and pursued the possibility that another driver forced her off the road.

Police focused on locating a light-colored vehicle they believed would have damage to its right side and occupants who might have been injured. An autopsy was performed but the exact cause of death was not immediately determined. The investigation stalled into 1993 with no public progress reported.

On March 15, 1995, Cheryl’s estranged husband, Douglas Lunna, was indicted on careless and negligent driving resulting in fatality and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in fatality, alleged to have sideswiped her car. Investigators presented evidence to a grand jury that included Douglas’s blood and a bloody palm print on Cheryl’s car. He pleaded not guilty, and in November 1995 a judge dismissed the charges as insufficient to prove he was the driver. Cheryl’s death remains unsolved.

Did anyone in the Bethel or Randolph area have information about a light-colored vehicle seen on Camp Brook Road that spring?
