Ricky LaTwan Platt was 16 when he was shot and killed in Newport News, Virginia, on the night of October 2, 2012. Police were called for shots fired at the Heritage Trace Apartments in the Denbigh area and found him in the parking lot next to a dumpster a short distance from the apartment where he lived. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at 12:19 a.m., having sustained at least one gunshot wound to his torso.

Born October 19, 1995, Ricky was a 10th-grade student remembered by family and friends for his great sense of humor, love of Hip-Hop music, and a smile that brought joy to those around him. In the weeks before his death he had been staying with a family friend and had recently returned to his mother’s home. Newport News police had not identified suspects or a motive during the initial investigation, and the murder remained unsolved, leaving the family seeking answers and the community to confront youth violence.

Does anyone have information about Ricky, his movements that night, or the Heritage Trace Apartments area that could help bring justice?
