On the evening of Wednesday, August 19, 1992, 19-year-old Karl Alston was fatally shot while standing in the 1000 block of Atlantis Drive in Virginia Beach. Alston was a Black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 174 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Witnesses described two Black males who fled the scene in a tan two-door Buick, possibly a Regal with a tan vinyl top. One was seen holding a gun, about 5 feet 8 inches and 145 pounds, wearing a red and blue polo shirt, baggy blue jeans, black and white tennis shoes, and a black baseball cap. The other was shorter, about 5 feet 5 inches with a thin build and a hairstyle with the sides cut short and dreadlocks on top; he was reportedly driving.
The Virginia Beach Police Department now classifies the killing as a cold case. No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced. If anyone has information about Karl Alston, the two men seen that night, or the tan Buick, please contact investigators.
