Joan Zwingman was 26 and traveling from New Jersey on a work trip in mid-August 1983 with colleague Christine Pilczak. Both women were seen alive the evening of August 18 in Virginia Beach and then vanished. On August 19 two bodies were spotted floating in Chesapeake Bay and recovered by the Coast Guard at Ferry Road.
Neither woman was dressed for swimming and both had injuries suggesting something occurred before they died. Autopsies concluded both deaths were drownings and were ruled homicides. The suspect remains unknown and the case is still listed as a cold-case homicide by the Virginia Beach Police Department.
If anyone remembers Joan, Christine, or saw boats out on Chesapeake Bay that night in August 1983, please share what you know.
