Joseph Armarante Nelson, a 23-year-old White man, was shot and killed on November 10, 2005, outside his home at 3285 76th Avenue in Westminster, Colorado. The shooting occurred about 8:40 p.m. while Nelson was on his front porch with family and friends. A dark green 2-door Ford Explorer pulled up and stopped in the street; Joseph walked toward the vehicle, witnesses heard an altercation and two gunshots, and he collapsed as the SUV fled west on 76th Avenue.

Several people were present that night, but no clear description of the vehicle’s occupants was ever obtained and the shooter has not been identified. Police investigated at the scene but the case went cold. Authorities suggested the shooting might have been gang-related, a claim disputed by friends who described Nelson as not involved in gang activity. He left behind a young son who is being raised by his mother.

Anyone who was in the neighborhood that evening or who remembers a dark green 2-door Ford Explorer seen on 76th Avenue that night is asked to come forward with information.
