Daniel Larson, 34, was living out of a gray 1990 Pontiac 6000 in the Loveland, Colorado, area and stopped communicating with his family in late 2003. His family reported him missing to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, and on December 28, 2003 his car was found abandoned at the Park & Ride at Interstate 25 and U.S. 34; investigators reported blood in the trunk.

Human remains found by hunters on January 13, 2004 in a field north of Kersey, near Weld County Road 388 and Weld County Road 59, were identified as Larson. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office ruled the death a homicide and opened a murder investigation that remains active with no arrests or publicly identified suspects.

Larson had told his ex-wife shortly before he vanished that he was due to meet people connected to the Mexican Mafia about an unpaid debt, a lead investigators have pursued. Anyone with information about Larson, his movements in late 2003, or that December 28 scene is asked to contact the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
