Margarette Brown was 40 and a mother of four when she died in Weld County, Colorado, in early June 2003. On the evening of June 1 she placed a 911 call at 9:01 p.m., sounding intoxicated and reporting two unidentified women in her Ault home whom she wanted to leave. Earlier that evening she had spoken with her grandfather and a friend between about 8:17 and 8:53 p.m.
Two Weld County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call and found the house with lights on and the front door open, the screen door closed. They called for Margarette but received no answer and saw no one inside. Her body was found three days later, on June 4, 2003, in an irrigation canal near Weld County Roads 43 and 90; the death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators have interviewed friends and family over the years but have not developed significant leads. No arrests or publicly identified suspects have been announced. If anyone knew Margarette, the people she spoke with that night, or saw anything around Ault or the canal in early June 2003, please come forward with information.
