In the early morning hours of November 21, 1996, the body of 43-year-old James Wesley Vooris was found in a room at the Super 8 Motel in the Del Camino area near Greeley, just off Interstate 25 and Colorado 119. Vooris, born December 6, 1953, had been beaten to death, and the Weld County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation.
Detectives developed leads suggesting the killing was connected to the drug trade and identified several persons of interest, but despite those leads the investigation eventually went cold and no arrests were ever made. The case remains an open, unsolved file with the sheriff’s office.
Anyone who knew James, saw activity at the Super 8 in November 1996, or has information that could help investigators is asked to contact the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
