Lucas Gonzales was 19 when he left his home on January 31, 1995, telling his wife he’d be back within the hour. He departed at about 2 p.m. with his uncle in a white two-door 1992 Hyundai Excel; the uncle says he dropped Lucas off in Denver near 46th and Federal. Lucas was last seen wearing blue pants, a black sweatshirt over a gray T-shirt, and a dark blue jacket.
Nearly seven weeks later, on March 19, 1995, a hiker on Beaver Brook Trail on Lookout Mountain in Jefferson County found Lucas’s body. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office determined he had been shot and declared the death a homicide. No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests announced.
There is a gap between the reported drop-off in Denver and how Lucas came to be on Lookout Mountain; those movements and the circumstances of the shooting remain unresolved. If anyone knew Lucas, saw him on January 31, 1995, or has information about travel between Denver and Lookout Mountain that winter, please come forward.
